Yermin Mercedes clubbed two home runs to carry the White Sands Pupfish (7-16) to a 14-5 win over the Taos Blizzard (4-14) at Taos Tundra.
Eight runs in the first three innings helped the White Sands Pupfish blow out the Taos Blizzard. A groundout by Fernando Frias, a two-run home run by Mercedes, and a two-run double by Mike Branda during the first inning and a two-run double by Boon Maeda and an RBI double by Mercedes in the second inning fueled the White Sands Pupfishs offense early.
Mathew Cook got the win for the White Sands Pupfish thanks to 12 strikeouts. Cook allowed three earned runs, five hits and one walk over seven innings.
Steve Taft had a busy day at the plate, collecting three extra-base hits. He doubled in the first and seventh innings and homered in the ninth inning.
Enoch Deaton couldnt get it done on the bump for the Taos Blizzard, taking a loss. He allowed 12 runs in five innings, walked five and struck out six.
The White Sands Pupfishs Mercedes, Maeda, Branda and J JCostantino combined for 11 hits and 12 RBIs.
